My last final was last night. (Yay!)
I came home to a suspicious amount of cars parked on the street and a friend walking swiftly toward the front door of the house.
I parked in the back and was met by J, who couldn't hide the fact that he was trying to hide something from me as he pulled the gate closed behind my car and explained that Dennis (the friend I saw walking toward the door) was just stopping by quickly to grab a guitar pedal and then we were on for our quiet celebration at home, just like we'd planned.
He ushered me in to the house and faced me toward the dining room as the light went on and I was greeted by a bunch of friends, a table full of delicious food, and excited pups! And my mom! J managed to plan a little surprise celebration shin-dig for me, complete with some of my favorite people (including a CT attendee) and my mom (who also counts as another CT attendee). Even though I'd developed some suspicions, I was so surprised! It was an awesome way to celebrate the end of my slave-to-school days.
J is the best thing ever.
And being done with school is not too far behind on that list.

Snow and Scones
It's snowing. Again.
J went out to tackle the snow mounds, so I made scones!
(and lots of tea)
Lemon blueberry scones. Just the basic Isa vegan scone recipe from VWaV. I added about two tablespoons of lemon zest, a tablespoon of lemon juice, and a ton of the biggest blueberries I could find, topped with an earth balance, lemon juice and confectionary sugar glaze ... holy wow these things are tasty!
This photo is what was left of the original 12 an hour after they came out of the oven. It looks like they'll be breakfast and lunch today.

Vday, Ends and Continuations (and Beet Burgers)
Last night marked the last day of class ...forever. Next Thursday is the final, but I don't count the final as a class, it's more of a quick and painful obligation that I refuse to study for (beyond the hour crunch before class). I'm not even going to think about it until I'm driving to class. I'm almost beyond practically done and I am SO excited!
Last night was also Valentines Day. I got home from class to find this in the dining room:
J, the most wonderful guy in the entire world, had made beet burgers shaped into hearts (these things are incredibly delicious and possibly my favorite veggie burger ever), baked seasoned sweet potato wedges, and vanilla bean cupcakes with chocolate ganache!
Candles lit the room and flowers decorated the table, and a lovely bottle of moscato was awaiting our company.
We celebrated the end of classes, the begining of weekends without papers, and the continuation of our journey toward a happy forever together.

Procrastinator
I was good this time. I got a head start on my paper. Yet, somehow, I've still managed to leave myself a good bit to finish up tomorrow. The paper is due tomorrow. The final project is due tomorrow, too. This is what I do, my creative juices flow like angry lava when the deadline is near. There's no use fighting it, I'm a last minute kinda girl.
Tomorrow night is the last real night of class. I have a final next Thursday and then I'm done. Forever! I cannot possibly convey the extreme happiness I feel over this whole end of school thing. I'll be graduated, finished, completed, done. I'll have my life back. I cannot wait. I plan to read lots of books, attend lots of yoga and ballet classes, spend lots of time with J and the pups, get lots of things done, devote full attention to work while at work, and fully enjoy my life being returned to me. No more papers, no more projects, no more vague descriptions of hugely important performance transcripts! I may even finally edit and post the twenty-some-odd blog entries I have started and waiting in my "when I have time" editing limbo.
Yay!

And Then I Fell Down the Stairs!
A compendium of my ridiculous week to-date:
Monday- computer experiences bizarre and seemingly incurable (per the super-smart IT guy) malfunction, preventing me from opening or saving reports from the main database. Reports are a huge part of my job. I can't work.
Later, while pulling into the driveway with a pup crying in the backseat, 40 minutes late for her dinner and fully believing she would never be fed again, I was watching carefully to ensure I wouldn't scrape J's car on the left as I crept too close to the gate post and scratched a lovely series of slashes into the right side of my car. Yay.
Tuesday- trying to keep quiet as J and the pups all slept, I attempted to sneak through the dark bedroom and into the closet to get dressed for work without disturbing anyone. Ollie was sleeping on his bed just outside the door. I opened it (in retrospect, not enough) and promptly rammed my left cheekbone into the door.
IT is still baffled by my computer issue as it escalates to the big guns at corporate.
Wednesday- Computer is still screwed. Corp guys have some ideas but seem stumped. I stop at my house in Providence to check the mail and as I kneel in front of the mailbox I manage to tangle my pant leg on the heel of my shoe (I think, it happened rather fast and the memory is a blur) and fell backwards on the cement steps, slamming my lower back into the pointy edge of a step. Barely able to walk, I painfully lowered myself into the car and giggled sporadically at my clutzy string of injuries the rest of the way home. I am in intense pain, but thankful I didn't crack my head open.
Thursday- After a painfully sleepless night, despite a handful of motrin, my back is hurting worse than it did Wednesday evening and I am thankful I have a conveniently pre-scheduled check-up with my doctor at 9:30. My doctor is rad. We talk about Dexter, vegan recipes, yoga, and my rash of self-inflicted injuries as he checks to make sure I haven't done something to myself worse than a heartily bruised sacrum. I am perscribed more motrin, targeted stretches, a pack of frozen peas several times a day, and a donut pillow. Donut pillows are the bomb. I am actually able to sit for several hours without pain and even feel a little better when the work day ends. Of course, I'd feel much better if it weren't for the fact that the perscribed "fix" for my computer requires a rebuild of my windows profile. This cures my report problem but leaves me with a temporary profile that has erased all my hard drive files, including the 15 page paper due next week. (Thankfully I have most of this saved elsewhere, but I've still managed to lose a good page or two of what I recall were super amazing edits.)
Tomorrow we are supposed to get a blizzard. Originally work was just called off, but that changed toward the end of the day as the weather predictions leaned toward minimal accumulations until the afternoon. I'm a little frightened at the prospect of finishing off my week of ridiculousness with the added bonus of slippery roads and high winds. Super excited to see what's in store. I'm planning to break for home by noon and hunker down with J and the pups and a whole ton of blizzard-y fun while encased in bubble wrap... just to be safe.
